Many patients suffering with a variety of conditions are suitable for musculoskeletal injections. However, there are some conditions where it would be unsafe to perform an injection. These include:

• superficial skin or soft-tissue infection;

• suspected joint infection;

• systemic infection or concurrent illness;

• unstable coagulopathy (bleeding disorder);

• anticoagulant therapy (eg. warfarin);

• uncontrolled diabetes mellitus;

• broken skin at the injection site.
